The Prime Minister of the German federal state of Saxony Michael Kretschmer announced that Germany is considering the purchase of about 30 million doses of the Russian Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine. Reported by Reuters.

According to Kretschmer, if the European Medicines Agency (EMA) gives its approval for its use, the drug will be purchased in the summer in three stages.

“We want to buy three times 10 million doses of Sputnik V in June, July and August. This is another brick for accelerating the pace of vaccination in Germany, ”said the prime minister.

In this situation, Saxony will receive 500 thousand doses or more, if the drug is approved in the region. The purchase will be handled by the German federal government.

Earlier, German Chancellor Angela Merkel allowed the possibility of Germany's independent purchase of Sputnik V, despite the decision of the EU members. However, the politician is convinced that the use of the vaccine is unacceptable before the registration of the EMA drug.
