British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz have agreed to continue working on sanctions against Russia, RIA Novosti reports.

The new possible package of sanctions is called “comprehensive” in the UK. Other countries can also join the work on it, London noted. Johnson stressed that these sanctions should be ready to take effect immediately in the event of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The leaders of Britain and Germany also believe that their NATO allies should be consistent in their signals about the consequences of the proposed invasion and send Russia a “clear and consistent message” about the consequences of such a step.

At the same time, the heads of government of the two countries, discussing the situation around Ukraine at the February 4 talks, agreed on the importance of dialogue with Russia. Scholz and Johnson agreed to use all diplomatic channels to end the tension.

At the end of December, Boris Johnson and Olaf Scholz also noted the importance of cooperation with Russia on the situation in Ukraine during a telephone conversation.

Earlier it became known that Olaf Scholz will visit Russia on February 15. The trip of the head of the German government will be timed to the topic of the settlement of the Ukrainian crisis.
