The German state of Schleswig-Holstein was attacked by a dangerous avian influenza virus of the subtype H5N8 (bird flu). Reported by Reuters.
Local authorities said eight chickens died in a short time on one farm. It is known that the remaining sick birds were identified and disposed of. In addition, the virus was confirmed at a poultry farm in another state of Germany – Lower Saxony. The Netherlands faced a similar problem, where the Ministry of Agriculture ordered the slaughter of 200,000 chickens.
This year, a focus of bird flu was also found in Russia. So, for the first time it was in the Chelyabinsk region in early August, when the avian influenza virus of the H5N8 subtype was found in the corpses of four domestic geese and wild duck, selected in the Uvelsky district on the shores of Peschanoe and Tabynsha lakes. Then the virus was fixed in the Omsk region and Tatarstan.
Highly pathogenic avian influenza is an acute viral disease of agricultural and wild birds that affects the respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts.
