This is reported by the Robert Koch Institute.
It was decided to introduce booster vaccinations to minors due to an increase in the number of cases of infection with Omicron. The third dose should be administered no earlier than three months after the last vaccination.
“The current situation with a sharp increase in the number of cases of SARS-CoV-2 due to the Omicron variant and fears of consequences for the health system in Germany make it necessary to expand the vaccination campaign,” the release says.
In Germany, 60.1 million people (72%) have received two doses of the vaccine to date. 37 million (45%) received a booster shot. However, over the past day, a record 80,430 cases of COVID-19 have been registered in the country.
