The German Ministry of Defense and the Bundeswehr are suspending their accounts on the social network X, which belongs to American billionaire Elon Musk. The German military believes that an objective exchange of arguments is not possible on this platform.

The German Defense Ministry, headed by Scholz's Social Democratic Party ally Boris Pistorius, made the decision on the X network a few days after Musk held a flattering conversation on his social network with Alice Weidel, the candidate for chancellor of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) in the upcoming snap elections on February 23.
In December 2024, billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk, who is also one of the main advisers to US President-elect Donald Trump, supported the far-right AfD in a publication on X and has since used the social media platform, which he bought in 2022, to criticize German politicians.
He has called Chancellor Olaf Scholz a “fool” and portrayed the AfD as the only force that can “save” Germany.
Instead of switching to Bluesky, a favorite alternative to X for many, the German Defense Ministry said it would continue to stream videos and content on Instagram, YouTube, and a WhatsApp channel.
