German Air Force fighter jets scrambled after Russian Il-20M aircraft appeared over the Baltic Sea.

Bild writes about this.

According to media reports, radars recorded a Russian plane taking off from Kaliningrad on the morning of June 27, moving in international airspace with its transponders turned off and not making contact.

Two Eurofighters were scrambled from Lage Air Base and made visual contact with the Russian aircraft 100 kilometres off the German coast.

Bild sources claim that the Il-20M ignored the German fighters and continued to fly west. However, 40 kilometers from the island of Usedom, the aircraft changed course and headed north.

It is noted that the Il-20M did not violate German airspace.

It should be noted that NATO fighters have already scrambled to intercept Russian aircraft nine times since the beginning of 2025. The Russian Defense Ministry insists that all flights are conducted in accordance with international law.

Let us recall that Polish fighter jets intercepted a Russian Su-24 bomber in international airspace over the Baltic Sea.
