The German city has warmed by 42 degrees in a week

In the German city of Göttingen, the temperature has risen by almost 42 degrees Celsius in a week. This is evidenced by the data of the German Meteorological Service, RIA Novosti reports.

A record temperature jump was recorded between February 14-21. At the beginning of the week, the city recorded temperatures of 23.8 degrees below zero, and at the end – 18.1 degrees above zero. Thus, the air temperature increased by 41.9 degrees over the week. The previous record was recorded in May 1880 in Jena, when in seven days it warmed from minus 5.1 to plus 36 degrees.

It is noted that the temperature record was set against the background of two anomalies. In the middle of the month, the unusual movement of the polar vortex caused cold weather and heavy snowfalls. After that, warm subtropical air came to the territory of Germany, which “drives” the area of low pressure over the Atlantic Ocean, climatologists explained.

High temperatures have been recorded in the last few days throughout Germany. So, in Hamburg it warmed up to plus 21 degrees, which became a record for the maximum temperature for winter. In Berlin, the air warmed up to plus 12 degrees, and in Hanover – up to plus 14.
