German authorities announced the introduction of strict quarantine

From December 16 to January 10, the German authorities are introducing strict quarantine in the country in connection with the spread of coronavirus infection. German Chancellor Angela Merkel announced the tightening of existing measures during a press conference in Berlin, TASS reports.

Merkel stressed that the number of infected continues to grow. According to her, the measures taken earlier are not enough. “We have to act and we are doing it now,” the chancellor said.

She clarified that the federal and state authorities consider it necessary to close outlets, in addition to food and some other stores, as well as to stop selling pyrotechnics and prohibit drinking alcohol in public places. The chancellor added that a ban on gatherings will be in effect during the New Year holidays. Schools and kindergartens are planned to be closed whenever possible.

Earlier, the Minister of Justice of Germany, Christine Lambrecht, shared fears that informal coercion of vaccination against COVID-19 may begin in the country if unvaccinated citizens of the country are threatened with “restrictions in social life.” Lambrecht herself believes that this is primarily an ethical, not a legal issue, and the authorities should carefully consider it.
