The US Embassy has already called the incident “a black day for Georgian democracy.”
The administration of Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili is canceling all scheduled meetings at the UN and is preparing to address his country amid protests that erupted on March 7.
This is reported by the “First Channel” of Georgia.
Zurabishvili is currently visiting the United States. She intends to urgently appeal to the population of Georgia in connection with the protests due to the controversial bills on “foreign agents”.
It should be noted that at the end of March 7, the Georgian Parliament adopted in the first reading the draft law “On transparency of foreign influence”, which largely follows the Russian legislation on “foreign agents”.
Consideration of the project already on March 7 was a surprise. Most of the opposition deputies did not participate in the discussion.
Thousands of protests erupted across the country. Clashes continue between protesters and police.
We add that out of 150 deputies, 76 voted “for” the adoption of the law “On the transparency of foreign influence”, 13 – “against” and 61 people abstained. What's wrong with the scandalous law, read here.
