Georgian Interior Ministry identified the robber who seized the bank in Zugdidi

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia identified the robber at the branch of the Bank of Georgia on October 21 in the city of Zugdidi, TASS reports.

Law enforcers called on the media and citizens not to disclose the name and not publish a photo of the criminal if they have such information. This, as noted in the statement, will interfere with the conduct of investigative measures aimed at arresting the hijacker. Work on the capture of the criminal is still underway.

On Sunday, Georgian Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri is in Zugdidi. He is holding an operational meeting at the Police Department in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region.

On October 21, a man in camouflage uniforms, gloves and a mask, armed with a machine gun and a grenade, burst into the building of the Bank of Georgia branch in the city of Zugdidi. The hijacker held hostages – 43 people, employees and clients – for almost 12 hours. Through the media, he demanded that the authorities release all hostages for a ransom of $ 500,000. Having received a ransom and guarantees of his safety (as well as having stolen $ 3.5 million from the bank), he disappeared in a car in an unknown direction. Earlier, there was information that the attacker was related to law enforcement agencies.
