Georgia will consider the issue of hospitalization of Saakashvili because of the hunger strike.
Mikheil Saakashvili may be transferred to one of the Tbilisi clinics in connection with the deterioration of health due to the hunger strike, the lawyer of the former President Kakha Tsereteli told TV Pirveli.
The final decision should be made by a council of doctors, which, according to the lawyer, will visit the politician today.
Lawyers for the former president of Georgia told the Pirveli TV channel that Saakashvili was weakened, spoke with difficulty and moved around the cell. Nevertheless, the defenders add, he is not going to end the hunger strike.
Earlier, his personal doctor Nikoloz Kipshidze spoke about the deteriorating health of Saakashvili. According to him, the politician has a blood disease, in which one cannot starve, this will lead to irreversible consequences.
Mikhail Saakashvili has been on hunger strike for 18 days, since October 1, when he was detained.
Saakashvili left Georgia in 2013. On September 29 this year, he returned home for the first time in eight years. According to CNews, citing law enforcement sources, the former president crossed the border in the ventilation cabin of a trailer in which his alleged accomplice was transporting herbs from Georgia to Ukraine. On October 1, Saakashvili was detained and a criminal case was opened against him on illegal border crossing.
This is the fifth criminal case against the politician, for two he was sentenced in absentia to nine years: the murder of the banker Sandro Girgvliani and the beating of deputy Valery Gelashvili. The rest of the cases are considered by the courts, the politician is accused of embezzlement of public funds and abuse of office.
