The non-governmental organization “National Congress of Slavic Peoples of Georgia” asked the country's Prosecutor General's Office to initiate a criminal case against those who defiled the monument to the Russian poet Alexander Griboyedov in the center of Tbilisi.
“I ask you to initiate a criminal case against the vandals for desecrating the cultural heritage of Georgia and inciting ethnic hatred,” the organization’s letter was quoted by TASS.
It is noted that the actions of vandals are unacceptable, especially given the importance of Griboyedov in the history of Georgia.
Earlier, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said that Moscow considers the desecration of the monument to Alexander Griboyedov in Tbilisi and the provocation against journalist Vladimir Pozner as links in one chain.
