The former professional cyclist Georg Preidler was sentenced to twelve months of conditional imprisonment on Friday at the Innsbruck regional court in a new edition of his doping trial for the crime of serious commercial sports fraud. In addition, the 31-year-old Styrian was fined 1,440 euros. The judgment was already final, the public prosecutor's office and defense waived their right to appeal.
The ex-professional athlete was sentenced in July 2020 to a conditional prison sentence of the same amount and a fine of 2,880 euros. However, the Supreme Court (OGH) partially overturned the judgment after Preidler's appeal and appeal.
286,000 euros damage
The public prosecutor had accused Preidler of having deceived racing bike teams, sports organizers and supporters by using blood doping and growth hormone between March 2017 and March 2019 and causing them to pay out bonuses, sponsorship money and remuneration. The accused damage amounted to 286,000 euros.
