The site Genius.com, blocked by Roskomnadzor, became available again in Russia after the lyrics of songs banned in the country were removed. Previously, access to the platform was closed due to the “Sockets” of the rapper Husky and the “Numbers” LSP, which describe methods of suicide. In total, about ten pages with inappropriate content were found on the world's largest site with lyrics.
Roskomnadzor blocked Genius on July 26. As it turned out later, this was due to the inclusion in the register of banned sites of more than ten pages of Genius.com with texts in which the regulator saw signs of extremism or calls for suicide. Many of these tracks are still available on several digital platforms today.
11 days after the blocking, the Genius administration announced on its page that “the site no longer has” Panels “and” Numbers “, but there is the site itself!” After the banned texts were removed, the portal was unblocked, and the resource pages were removed from the Roskomnadzor register.
“We draw your attention to the fact that there has not yet been an official statement from the site administration regarding the unblocking. In the Roskomnadzor register, all previously blocked track pages are now listed as unblocked, therefore, they no longer interfere with visiting Genius, ”it was reported.
As the editors of vc.ru found out, in addition to the designated rappers' songs, all 25 songs from the list of prohibited in Russia were removed from Genius.
However, TJournal users found the texts of the “forbidden songs” on the pages of Genius dedicated to other musicians. For example, the lyrics “Panels” can be found on the song remix page, and “Numbers” are available on the Noize MC artist page.
