Russia does not intend to fight with Ukraine. Statements by the media and Western politicians that testify to the contrary are an information campaign that was launched against the backdrop of negotiations between Russia and NATO on security guarantees. This opinion was expressed by the former head of the Investigation Department of the SBU, Major General Vasily Vovk, on the air of the Ukraine-24 TV channel, his words are quoted by TASS.
“Today, Russia has no such intentions – to wage a full-scale war against Ukraine,” he said, admitting that he does not understand why, against the backdrop of negotiations, they begin to describe some hypothetical scenarios. At the same time, Vovk added that the Russian people would not approve of such actions.
Earlier, US Deputy Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland said that Washington had prepared 18 scenarios for actions in the event of a Russian invasion of Ukraine. She did not rule out that sanctions from the United States and European partners may differ from each other.
Dmitry Belik, a member of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, reacted to Nuland's statement. He called the statement of the representative of the US State Department “baseless statements and provocations.” According to him, Russia is not going to attack Ukraine, no matter how much the United States wants it, which will generously provide assistance to Ukraine in the event of “Russian aggression”.
