Gazprom, Sberbank and Russian ships hit by British sanctions: list of bans

by alex

Britain has introduced additional economic measures against Russia that should hasten Putin's defeat in his war with Ukraine.

On Tuesday, March 1, the UK imposed new sanctions on the Russian Federation due to the invasion of Ukraine.

The full list of restrictions is published on the official website of the British government office.

The imposition of sanctions, as stated in the message, “will lead to a deterioration in the Russian economy and help make sure that Putin loses.”

UK individuals and legal entities are prohibited from making financial transactions with the Russian Central Bank.

It is forbidden for Russian giant companies, in particular, Gazprom, to issue debt or shares on the London Stock Exchange.

The assets of the Russian Direct Investment Fund and personally the executive director of the fund , Kirill Dmitriev , were blocked. Dmitriev, who is a close associate of Russian President Vladimir Putin, has been banned from entering the UK.

It is forbidden to clear payments in pounds sterling through the UK financial system to the Russian Sberbank , which accounts for 35% of the Russian financial sector. The UK also imposed sanctions against Russia's second-largest bank, VTB, and 8 other financial institutions, including Sovcombank and Otkritie Bank.

The export of high-tech equipment from Britain to Russia is prohibited: microelectronics, marine and navigation equipment, which will weaken the military-industrial potential of Russia and become a brake on its economy for many years to come.

Vessels owned by any person associated with the Russian Federation, sailing under the Russian flag or registered in the Russian Federation are prohibited from entering UK ports .
The corresponding order of the British Ministry of Transport has already been sent to port authorities. Russian intruder ships will be detained.

“We said that Putin and his entourage will pay the price for their unprovoked and illegal invasion of Ukraine, and we are true to our word. We support Ukraine, its people and its democracy, and will continue to support them diplomatically, economically, politically and defensively,” Foreign Minister Liz Truss commented on this decision.

Recall, the UK is also imposing the first package of sanctions against the regime of the Belarusian usurper Lukashenko “in response to the role that the country plays in Russia's invasion of Ukraine, including facilitating the invasion from its borders.”
