Accusations against Gazprom of insufficient gas supplies to Europe are groundless and unacceptable. This was announced on the air of the Russia 1 TV channel by the representative of the Russian company Sergei Kupriyanov, RIA Novosti reports.

He also called such statements lies and lies. At the same time, he noted that a number of Gazprom's clients, including those from France and Germany, had fully worked out their contract volumes and were not submitting more bids.

Earlier, the company indicated that Europe is taking record volumes of blue fuel from its storage facilities. As of December 22, countries have already used up a significant amount of gas injected in 2021. “According to Gas Infrastructure Europe, more than 41 percent of the gas has been withdrawn from underground storage facilities in Europe,” the statement says.

Where does the gas go

Kupriyanov commented on reverse gas supplies from underground storage facilities in Germany. “It should be noted that, according to available data, there is a physical reverse of gas from Germany to Poland and, apparently, to Ukraine,” he said, adding that its volume is 3-5 million cubic meters per day.

At the same time, gas rises from underground storage facilities in Germany, of which 47 percent of the fuel has already been taken.

Thus, Gazprom advised Western Europe not to blame the company for its own problems. Instead, Kupriyanov pointed out, it is better for European countries to “look in the mirror”. “All problems in Western Europe create themselves and there is no need to blame Gazprom for this,” he stressed.

A company representative assured that Gazprom is ready to supply additional volumes of gas to Europe within the framework of existing long-term contracts. He clarified that the price of such supplies will be significantly lower than on the spot.

Record prices

On December 22, the price of gas in Europe reached an all-time high and exceeded the level of $ 2,150 per thousand cubic meters. Summer forward contracts are also breaking record after record. At the end of the year, they are approaching the level of 1.2 thousand dollars per thousand cubic meters.

2187 dollars per thousand cubic meters – the historical maximum of gas prices in Europe

A week ago, the cost of gas for delivery in the summer amounted to a little over a thousand dollars per thousand cubic meters. Last month it could be bought for $ 600 per thousand cubic meters.

At the same time, Bloomberg suggested that the price of gas in Europe will not decrease in the coming months, moreover, the current quotes promise the region a record-high price for gas even in the summer of 2022. The pessimism of market participants is largely due to the statement of the German Federal Network Agency (BNetzA), which called the launch of Nord Stream 2 unlikely by the end of the year. Their expectations are also influenced by Russia's refusal to supply fuel through the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline, which has been idle for the fifth day in a row.

At the same time, Russian President Vladimir Putin made it clear during a large press conference that he did not consider it necessary to change Gazprom's policy in the European direction. Therefore, the company may limit itself to gas supplies under previously concluded contracts and not increase supplies to the exchange.
