The Russian Progress MS-16 cargo spacecraft will deliver food products, as well as fresh vegetables and fruits to the International Space Station (ISS) in mid-February. This was announced by the head of the nutrition department of the Institute of Biomedical Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Agureev, reports RIA Novosti.
According to Agureyev, the astronauts will be sent apples, oranges, onions and garlic, as well as food rations. Despite running out of stocks of Russian food, a “standard” quantity will be delivered to the station, he added.
Along with the food, New Year's gifts should also be sent to the ISS, without which the Russians were left in December due to the delay in the departure of Progress MS-16. It was noted that despite this, space on the truck for gifts, drawings and surprises from families remained reserved, and the astronauts will receive them in February.
In January, it became known that the astronauts handed over 13 food rations to the astronauts. After that, the media reported that Russian food remained on the ISS for two weeks.
Russian cosmonauts Sergei Ryzhikov and Sergei Kud-Sverchkov, American astronauts Kathleen Rubins, Michael Hopkins, Victor Glover and Shannon Walker, and Japanese Soichi Noguchi are currently working on the ISS.
