Bale is the hope of the island footballers
The superstar Gareth Bale, most recently loaned to Tottenham Hotspur by Real Madrid, leads the Welsh national football team's EM squad. The tournament squad, published by interim coach Robert Page, consists mainly of professionals from the English Premier League and the second-rate championship.
Aaron Ramsey from Juventus Turin is the only player in the Wales squad, alongside Jamie Lawrence from FC St. Pauli, who is not under contract with a football club on the island. Long-time national players Wayne Hennessey (Crystal Palace), Ben Davies (Tottenham Hotspur) and Chris Gunter (Charlton Athletic), who reached the semi-finals with Wales at the 2016 European Championship, will also be there. The team will face Switzerland, Turkey and Italy in the upcoming group stage.
