Gaming performance on Windows 11 PCs may experience 28% drop in performance

The reason is Virtualization-Based Security (VBS), the process of protecting the OS from malicious codes. It uses hardware and software virtualization. A kind of isolated subsystem is created. This gives the PC additional protection against viruses.

But, unfortunately, VBS also affects games. Experts have studied the frame rate in games with and without VBS. The drop in FPS from the popular action movie Shadow of the Tomb Raider was an incredible 28%. In the shooter Metro Exodus and the open-world adventure Horizon Zero Down, the frame rate dropped by 24% and 25%, respectively. Games ran in 2K resolution with the highest rendering settings.

VBS is included on all new PCs and laptops that ship with Windows 11 from the factory. For those who are switching from Windows 10 to Windows 11, the FPS drop mentioned above is not threatened. Unless, of course, their Windows 10 has VBS turned off.

From other interesting news: deliveries of accelerators with multi-chip GPUs from AMD have started.
