Gamaleya Center Launches Testing Platform for Multi-Virus Vaccines

by alex

In Russia, a vaccine is being tested on monkeys that can protect against several strains of the virus or different viruses, said Alexander Gintsburg, director of the Gamaleya Center. He denied reports that the center is testing an additive to enhance the Sputnik V effect on monkeys.

“This is a vaccine that we have now begun to test in preclinical trials on monkeys. The point of this technology is that it can be immediately protected against different strains of the same pathogen, or even against different viruses circulating in the human population at the same time. Such an approach is possible – various antigens of influenza and coronavirus viruses, ”said Mr Gunzburg to TASS.

The head of the Gamaleya Center noted that the new technology has nothing to do with Sputnik V. According to him, the coronavirus vaccine is already effective against COVID-19. Thus, he denied the message of Mash about testing an enhanced version of “Sputnik V”.

Mr Gunzburg previously reported that clinical trials of a single influenza and coronavirus vaccine would begin at the end of 2022. A drug is also being developed against various variants of the coronavirus.
