G7 to Russia: withdraw troops and refrain from using chemical and biological weapons

by alex

The leaders of the G7 (G7) warned the Russian Federation against the use of chemical, biological and nuclear weapons, as well as called on the aggressor to stop the war and withdraw its troops from the territory of Ukraine.

“We warn against any threat of the use of chemical, biological and nuclear weapons or related materials. We remind you of Russia's obligations under international treaties to which it is a party and which protect us all. In this regard, we categorically condemn Russia's malicious and completely unfounded disinformation campaign against Ukraine, a state that fully complies with international non-proliferation agreements, the G7 Brussels statement said.

The leaders said they were also concerned about other countries and actors stepping up Russia's disinformation campaign.

“We are determined to support the Ukrainian people in their heroic resistance to Russia's unjustified and illegal aggression. We will step up our support for Ukraine and neighboring countries. We thank everyone who is already providing humanitarian assistance to Ukraine and ask others to join. We will also cooperate in our efforts to strengthen democratic resilience and protect human rights in Ukraine and neighboring countries, the G7 stressed.

They promised to continue their efforts to support Ukraine in protecting its networks from cyber incidents.

“In anticipation of any malicious cyber response from Russia to the actions we have taken, we are taking steps to improve infrastructure resilience in our countries by strengthening our coordinated cyber defenses and increasing our overall cyber threat awareness. We will also work to hold accountable those actors involved in destructive, subversive or destabilizing activities in cyberspace, the leaders said.

They also assured Ukraine of their support and called on Russia without further stop hostilities and withdraw troops.

The G-7 said they “are united in our determination to restore peace and stability and uphold international law”.

– Following the United Nations General Assembly resolution of March 2, 2022, we will continue to join the vast majority of the international community in condemning Russia's military aggression and the suffering and loss of life it continues to inflict, the statement said.

The G7, as clarified, “remains shocked and condemns the devastating attacks on the Ukrainian population and civilian infrastructure, including hospitals and schools”.

They welcome the investigation of what is happening by international mechanisms, including the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court.

“We will work together to support the collection of evidence of war crimes. The siege of Mariupol and other Ukrainian cities, as well as the denial of humanitarian access by the Russian armed forces, are unacceptable. Russian forces must immediately ensure safe passage to other parts of Ukraine, as well as the delivery of humanitarian aid to Mariupol and other besieged cities, the leaders said.

The G7 insist that the Kremlin &# 8220;immediately and without delay” complied with the order of the International Court of Justice on the suspension of hostilities that began on February 24 on the territory of Ukraine.

– We also call on Russia to withdraw its military forces and equipment from all over Ukraine,” the statement said.

Belarus, in turn, is urged to avoid further escalation and refrain from using their armed forces against Ukraine, just like any other country.

– We will be vigilant about any Russian military assistance. We will spare no effort to hold President Putin, the architects and supporters of this aggression, including the Lukashenka regime in Belarus, accountable for their actions. To this end, we will continue to work with our allies and partners around the world, they assured.
