Poland is introducing a full lockdown – tight restrictions across the country – due to the worsening situation with the coronavirus pandemic. This was announced by Minister of Health Adam Nedzelski, TVN24 reports.
The lockdown will take effect on March 20 and will last until at least April 9. According to its rules, shopping centers, cinemas, theaters, galleries and other entertainment establishments, as well as swimming pools and baths, will be closed, and primary school students will be transferred to distance learning. The minister urged employers to send as many employees as possible to remote work.
Nedzelsky explained that the spread of the virus is accelerating in the country, while most often – in 52 percent of cases – the so-called “British” strain is detected in patients. According to him, the authorities can no longer afford to impose restrictions only in areas where the pandemic is especially strong. It also clarifies that the restrictions can be tightened, if required.
On March 9, Estonian Prime Minister Kaya Kallas announced the government's decision to introduce a strict quarantine regime in the country due to the spread of the British strain of the coronavirus. According to her, this mutation is currently recorded in 98 percent of the analyzed tests.
