Fuel tanker explosions and road accidents are quite common in Nigeria, partly due to the poor condition of the roads.
59 people have been killed in Niger State in central Nigeria. There, a fuel tanker collided with a truck carrying passengers and livestock.
The country's state emergency management agency reported this, the BBC reports.
The collision occurred at night and caused an explosion that engulfed both vehicles.
The agency's director general, Abdullahi Baba Ara, said emergency response teams had arrived at the scene.
A spokesman for the Niger state emergency management department told the BBC that the death toll could rise.
“The death toll has risen to 59 after one of the seriously injured died in hospital. It is also possible that more people could be injured as the evacuation continues. “The bodies of the victims will also be found,” Abdullahi Baba Ara added.
Governor Umaru Bago expressed his condolences to the families of the victims.
“This is, without a doubt, the worst accident in many years,” he said.
Recall that in the Lviv region, a bus with military personnel collided with a truck. The accident occurred on the Lviv-Stryi highway on the night of September 9.
