Frozen Russian assets will be used to compensate for damage to Ukraine – Estonian government

by alex

Assets worth about 38 million euros have been frozen in Estonia.

The Estonian government approved and sent to parliament an amendment to the International Sanctions Act. This will allow the frozen Russian assets of sanctioned Russians to be used to compensate for the damage caused to Ukraine as a result of the war.

This is discussed on the Estonian government website.

Russia must pay

According to Prime Minister Kai Kallas, it is very important for Russia to raise the price of aggression. We need to find ways to hold Russia financially responsible for the damage caused to Ukraine.

“We must be an example and an incentive for other European countries to establish similar rules. Russia must compensate Ukraine for all damage caused by the war. It is important that aggression was punished and that the damage caused as a result of aggression was compensated,” she asserts.

Estonia hopes that the European Union will also complete the work of deploying Russian frozen assets and developing practical solutions as soon as possible.

Recall that Estonian President Alar Karis said: the expansion of the European Union has already shown that it is a success story. Therefore, this needs to be extended to Ukraine.
