The French Senate called on the country's government to recognize the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR). This is reported by TASS with reference to the text of the corresponding resolution adopted on Wednesday, November 25.

305 French senators out of 306 participants in the meeting voted for the adoption of the resolution.

“[The Senate] calls on the French government to recognize the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic and use this recognition as a negotiating tool to establish a lasting peace,” the document says.

The Senate also called for the immediate withdrawal of the Azerbaijani armed forces and their supporters from the territories “captured as a result of military operations” conducted since September 27. The country's authorities were advised “within the framework of the Minsk group to insist on ensuring the protection of the population by deploying international forces under its auspices in accordance with the recommendations of the 2007 peace plan.” Among other things, the resolution calls for the restoration of the borders defined in 1994 and ensuring the security of the Armenian population.

Earlier on November 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed the agreements of the Russian side with Armenia and Azerbaijan on Nagorno-Karabakh.

On November 9, Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan adopted a joint statement suggesting the cessation of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh from November 10. According to the document, the parties to the conflict stop at their positions. Azerbaijan will gain control over the territories of Aghdam, Gazakh, Kelbajar and Lachin regions. Russian peacekeepers will arrive in the region. The units will be deployed along the line of contact and the Lachin corridor, which connects Nagorno-Karabakh with Armenia.
