French scientists find out how many bubbles form in a glass of beer

French scientists conducted a study in which they calculated how many bubbles are in a glass of beer. They took as a basis a glass of lager in 250 milliliters, writes Science Daily.

According to experts, bubbles are one of the most important components of beer, as they are responsible for the taste and smell of the drink. Bubbles are formed in the bottle when carbon dioxide interacts with glass defects. At the same time, carbon dioxide itself can appear both during cold fermentation during the production of foam, and be artificially added before bottling.

French chemists led by Gerard Lige-Belard conducted an experiment. They poured beer at a standard temperature, which is 5.5 degrees, into a glass, and observed how many and what size bubbles were formed in it.

During the calculation, it was found that in a standard glass of beer, from 200 thousand to two million bubbles can appear. For comparison: in one glass of sparkling wine about a million bubbles are formed.

Previously, scientists found that if you tap a can of beer before opening, then the characteristic foam of the drink will still form and spray. In order to avoid this, the container must be kept at rest.
