The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs assured that the culprit of the sabotage carried out before the opening of the Olympics will soon be identified.
French law enforcement officials do not rule out the involvement of foreign countries in the attack, which suspended high-speed train service in most of the country on the day of the opening of the Olympics games.
This was announced on Saturday, July 27, by French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin, Reuters reports.
The attacks on Friday before dawn damaged infrastructure along the lines connecting Paris with cities such as Lille in the north, Bordeaux in the west and Strasbourg in the east. Another attack on the Paris-Marseille line was prevented.
On the opening day of the Paris Olympics, 100,000 people were unable to board trains, and another 150,000 were delayed.
No one claimed responsibility immediately after the attacks. Two security sources said that suspicions had initially been directed at left-wing militants or environmental activists, but there was no evidence of their involvement yet.
“Who is responsible? Whether it was from within or ordered from abroad, it is too early to say,” the interior minister said on France 2.
The interior minister added that the culprit of the sabotage would soon be identified.
The transport ministry said that traffic on France's high-speed rail network should return to normal by Monday.
Recall that sabotage occurred on the SNCF high-speed train line in France a few hours before the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. Therefore, the operator suspended traffic in most of the country.
