The ultra-right leader called the presence of the French military in Ukraine a “red line.”
Wednesday, 19 June, the leader of the French far-right Jordan Bardella, who if his National Rally party wins early parliamentary elections could lead the government, said that he objects to President Macron’s idea to send French troops to Ukraine.
This was reported by Politico.
“Unlike the President [Emmanuel Macron], I am against sending French troops and soldiers to Ukraine,” he told reporters on the sidelines of the Eurosatory arms exhibition in the northern suburbs of Paris
The ultra-right leader called the presence of the French military in Ukraine a “red line” that should not be crossed.
Such a statement jeopardizes plans to send Westerners to Ukraine instructors, including French ones, if the National Rally joins the French government after early elections that Macron called in response to his party's massive defeat in the European Parliament elections earlier this month.
Bardella's National Rally party is leading in opinion polls ahead of snap parliamentary elections on June 30 and July 7, but it is difficult to predict whether the far right will win enough seats in parliament to form a government. < /p>
In the end, even if the National Rally runs the French government, Emmanuel Macron will remain president and commander-in-chief of the French army. However, the French constitution also gives the prime minister a certain role in the field of defense, in particular in setting the budget.
Recall that Jordan Bardella also stated that if he is elected prime minister, he will not provide Kyiv with long-range missiles for attacks on Russian territory.
