At large-scale NATO military exercises In Estonia, the French army is training the skills of a new unit that could be useful during the war in Ukraine.
This was reported by RTL.
We are talking about a special FRAN unit, whose task is to quietly move beyond the enemy line, provide intelligence information and capture trenches.
“We will penetrate closer to enemy lines or even bypass them. From there we will have two decisions from an intelligence point of view. Launch a drone or the old fashioned way – with our eyes,” Senior Sergeant Quentin, participating in the exercise, told the publication .
French commandos train for hours to sit in the bushes wearing camouflage clothing and use compact drones for reconnaissance. In addition to simply monitoring enemy activity, they are engaged in identifying enemy positions, searching for entry points into enemy trenches, and even coordinating the actions of assault units.
Training in Estonia, French fighters can practice their skills on roughly the same flat terrain as in Ukraine. “So this is very exciting for us,” explains Staff Sergeant Quentin.
14,000 NATO troops are taking part in the exercises in Estonia.
Recall that the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Charles Brown, on Thursday, May 16, called the deployment of NATO instructors in Ukraine inevitable.
