The European Union is ready to discuss proposals with Moscow on guarantees of security and strategic stability, French Ambassador to Russia Pierre Levy said. This is reported by Izvestia.
According to Levy, representatives of European foreign ministries last week formulated a unified position on the Russian military buildup on the border with Ukraine and Moscow's proposals for security guarantees, and now declare their readiness for new negotiations.
“The EU and Russia should continue their dialogue, including on issues of security and strategic stability. The security of Europe should be discussed with the Europeans,” Levy said.
Earlier, US national security adviser Jake Sullivan said in an interview with CBS that next week the White House would be ready to announce new steps in contacts with the Kremlin.
Negotiations and diplomatic consultations on issues of a security treaty in Europe were held on January 10 in Geneva, and on January 12 a meeting of the Russia-NATO Council was held in Brussels. In addition, on January 13, a meeting of the Permanent Council of the Organization for Security and Cooperation was held in Vienna, where Russian proposals were also considered.
