France's industry again produced less in December

Down 0.8 percent on the previous month

French industry again produced less in December. According to the Insee statistics office, total production was 0.8 percent lower than in the previous month. Production had already ceased in November. Analysts had expected an increase of 0.4 percent at the end of the year. Compared to the same month in the previous year, production fell by 3.0 percent.

In manufacturing, goods production fell 1.7 percent. That was the first drop since April. In the spring, production collapsed during the first Corona wave, after which it recovered noticeably. However, new corona restrictions were introduced at the end of last year, which are again affecting production.
