Paris and Brussels need to be guided by facts and not react to shifting reports of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian called for this, RIA Novosti reports.
“We must be on the alert and not react to information that changes from day to day,” the diplomat said. According to him, some changes in the policy of the Russian authorities were noted in France, as a result of which it is necessary to leave room for diplomacy.
Le Drian pointed out that Moscow's statements about the withdrawal of troops from the borders with Ukraine are good news. “But there is a step between the announced changes and the implemented changes. Words are good, I prefer facts,” he added. The minister concluded that in Paris they want to see a real withdrawal of military personnel from the border.
Earlier, the head of the French Foreign Ministry said that French President Emmanuel Macron is not ready to announce his candidacy in the upcoming elections, as he is busy resolving the global crisis. According to him, the French leader wants to “negotiate as the president of France, and not as a candidate for this post.”
