The spread of coronavirus in France is now progressing faster than in the spring of 2020. Antoine Fontane, the country's leading epidemiologist, spoke about this in an interview with BFM TV.
“The virus circulates faster. A new wave of the pandemic began in August (…), then there was one cold week in September, and after that all indicators went around Europe again. The virus spreads better in cold weather because we spend more time indoors, ”he admitted.
According to the expert, by the end of June, the French authorities were able to bring the spread of the infection under control, which instilled a false sense of security. This was one of the reasons why a new outbreak began.
French President Emmanuel Macron announced the start of the second wave of the spread of coronavirus in the country on October 14. He noted that the current situation is alarming.
According to the latest data, there are more than a million people infected with coronavirus in France. 34.2 thousand people died from complications.
