French authorities will oblige children from six years old to wear protective masks in public in connection with a sharp increase in cases of infection with the omicron strain of coronavirus. This is stated in the government decree, which is published on the portal of documents of the Cabinet of Ministers.

“The obligation to wear a protective mask referred to in this decree applies to persons aged six years and older,” the document says.

Earlier it was reported that against the background of the spread of the omicron strain of coronavirus in France and the United States, a record increase in cases was recorded per day since the beginning of the pandemic. France reported 179,807 new cases of coronavirus in 24 hours. The country's health minister, Olivier Veran, warned that by the beginning of January, the increase in infections could reach 250 thousand new cases daily.
