The Vorarlberg woman only missed the podium by 1.6 points at the start of the Summer Grand Prix.
The fact that Eva Pinkelnig still dares to climb ski jumps today borders on a miracle. The 33-year-old from Vorarlberg has already had to deal with several serious setbacks in her career. But the standing woman from Dornbirn had fought her way back again and again.
That was the case after the violent fall in which she suffered a traumatic brain injury. And that was no different last winter, when Eva Pinkelnig tore her spleen, underwent emergency surgery and still competed at the World Championships in Oberstdorf.
Her appearance at the Summer Grand Prix in Wisla (Poland) must also be seen from this point of view. In the first competition of this summer series, Eva Pinkelnig was the best Austrian after jumps on 116 and 125 meters in fourth place. The 33-year-old was only 1.6 points short of the podium. The victory went to the Slovenian Ursa Bogataj.
The Austrians presented themselves as a strong team. Marita Kramer was eighth ahead of Daniela Iraschko-Stolz, Sophie Sorschag (13th) and Lisa Eder (14th) also finished in the top 15.
