Found star systems from where you can see the Earth

Scientists from Cornell University and the American Museum of Natural History have identified more than two thousand star systems located at a relatively small distance from Earth (no more than 326 light years). If they were inhabited, they could discover our planet and intelligent life on it, reports Nature .

In total, there are 2034 such systems. Scientists explained that aliens can discover the Earth in the same way as we find other exoplanets. It passes in front of the Sun and temporarily blocks its light. From the fluctuations in the brightness of the star, it becomes clear that an object revolves around it.

“We wanted to know which stars have the correct vantage point to see the Earth. And as stars move in our dynamic space, this vantage point is gained and lost, ”said Lisa Kaltenegger, professor of astronomy and director of the Carl Sagan Institute at Cornell.

The study showed that hypothetical inhabitants of 1,715 star systems could have discovered Earth in the last 5,000 years, when human civilization began to develop on it. Another 319 could do this over the next 5,000 years.

The authors used data from the Gaia telescope to obtain the most accurate map of the Milky Way. They were able not only to determine the location of stars relative to the Earth, but also to calculate their trajectory over the past several thousand years.

The 2034 star systems identified by scientists pass through the transit zone of the Earth over a period of 10,000 years. 117 objects are within about 100 light-years from the Sun, and 75 of them have been in the Earth's transit zone since commercial radio stations on Earth began broadcasting into space (about a century ago).

Scientists intend to study in more detail the exoplanets located in these systems. Earlier it was reported that a blinking star was found in the Milky Way. It is gigantic in size.
