Formula 1 icon Damon Hill worries about record world champion Lewis Hamilton. The Mercedes driver is likely to suffer from the consequences of his corona infection.
Worry about Lewis Hamilton! The seven-time world champion regained Max Verstappen's lead at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Because Sebastian Vettel was subsequently disqualified (too little fuel in the Aston Martin), Hamilton inherited his second place.
That was only partly a reason to cheer for his fans. The pictures from the award ceremony, at which Hamilton was still on the third podium behind Esteban Ocon and Vettel, caused unrest among PS fans.
The 36-year-old clearly had difficulties to keep on his feet in the high temperatures in Budapest. Hamilton staggered on the podium, later spoke about his difficult year after the corona infection. Now the former Formula 1 hero Damon Hill also says: “He's definitely out of energy.”
In the “F1 Nation Podcast” he expresses concern about the superstar. “That 'Long Covid' we heard about … I heard that a year after getting Covid, people are still not one hundred percent fit. It's a nasty virus and hopefully Lewis can make a full recovery.”
“He was tired after the Silverstone race. He looked worn out on the podium. We thought it was because of the tough fight on the track. But after Hungary he has now admitted that he didn't make it to Covid again to get fit. “
Hamilton himself said in Budapest that he felt extremely tired and dizzy. When asked about Long Covid, he said, “I haven't spoken to anyone specifically about it, but it's persistent.”
“It's not over yet. I've been fighting all year, really, what happened at the end of last year. It's still a fight,” said Hamilton. Postscript: “I also get tired faster and faster in the races.” The seven-time world champion was infected at the end of last year and missed the penultimate race of the season in Bahrain.
Damon Hill became Formula 1 World Champion in 1996 and celebrated a total of 22 career victories in the premier class.
