The second Formula 1 race of the season takes place in Imola (It) on Sunday. However, there is a big question mark behind Montreal (Kan).
Bad news for all Formula 1 fans. As in the previous year, the traditional Grand Prix of Canada is about to be canceled. The race in Montreal is scheduled for June 13th. However, the coronavirus pandemic continues to bother the organizers.
On the one hand, financing without public income is difficult. The even bigger problem, however, is the current quarantine regulations. People have to seal themselves off from the rest of the world for 14 days, professional athletes seven. Even this shortening would be of little benefit to Lewis Hamilton and Co., as the Baku Grand Prix in Azerbaijan is on the program a week before that. The entire Formula 1 entourage comprises around 2,000 employees.
A possible substitute location is Istanbul, where they already drove in November – and Hamilton crowned himself world champion. But Turkey also reported rising corona numbers again.
The fact is: The season continues on Sunday in Imola (It). The first practice session for the second race of the year starts on Friday.
