Former Trump aide gives Biden advice on Russia

Fiona Hill

Former assistant to US President Donald Trump, Fiona Hill, has advised President-elect Joe Biden on Russia. The opinion of the former director of the National Security Council (SNB) of the White House on Russia is quoted by The New York Times.

According to her, Biden should not adopt the dismissive approach of 44th American leader Barack Obama to Russia. The expert noted that the world has changed a lot, and the new president will have to “think differently”. Hill stressed that many of the key challenges facing Biden will require cooperation with the Russian authorities. For example, in areas such as restoring arms control, countering climate change and fighting the novel coronavirus pandemic, the Biden administration will need to “find an opportunity to do this,” despite the differences.

Earlier, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, predicted relations between Russia and the United States after Joe Biden came to power. According to Zakharova, the change of power in the United States will not make any fundamental changes in the relationship between the two countries.

On December 15, Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated US Democratic candidate Joe Biden on his victory in the presidential election. In the telegram, the Russian leader wished the President-elect every success and expressed confidence that Russia and the United States “can, despite their differences, really contribute to solving many problems and challenges that the world is currently facing.”

Biden received the electoral college votes needed to win the presidential race. He received 302 votes against 270 necessary for victory. The Democrat called the decision of the electoral college a clear victory, won by him over the incumbent head of state, Donald Trump.
