Former Slovak police chief Milan Luchansky, detained on suspicion of corruption, tried to commit suicide in a prison cell. Refresher writes about this with reference to three sources.

Now the 51-year-old police general is in the hospital.

Luchansky was detained as part of the “Judas” special operation, organized to search for corrupt officials among law enforcement officers. He is suspected of taking a bribe in the amount of 510 thousand euros.

In addition to Luchansky, a number of former and current security officials were also detained. All of them are being charged with corruption and abuse of office.

Many Slovak high-ranking officials left their posts in 2018 amid pressure from society and the opposition after the high-profile murder of journalist Jan Kutsiak, who exposed the ties of local politicians to the Italian mafia. Then, among others, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Slovakia, Deputy Prime Minister Robert Kalinjak resigned. Later, the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, resigned.
