Former employee of the US Embassy in Moscow accused of conspiracy

The US Department of Justice accused a former employee of the embassy in Moscow, Olesya Krasilova, of fraud, conspiracy to steal documents and money laundering. This was reported on the website of the Department for the District of Columbia.

According to the Ministry of Justice, 43-year-old Krasilova, who worked for the US Citizenship and Immigration Service at the US Embassy in Russia, colluded with two foreign citizens, including a former employee of the country's diplomatic mission in Jordan, Haitham Isa Saado Sad. Their responsibilities included processing applications for the resettlement of refugees in the United States through the US Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP).

“From around February 2016 to at least April 2019, three defendants led by Aws Muwafaq Abduljabbar conspired to steal US government documents related to hundreds of USRAP filings. The records contained confidential, non-public information about refugee applicants, their family members, their service and military backgrounds, their stories of persecution or fear of persecution, the results of security checks and internal assessments of the statements of US officials, ”the website says.

It is noted that the theft of USRAP records poses a number of risks to public and national security, while at the same time placing significant costs on the US government, its taxpayers and other legitimate refugee claimants who are negatively affected by the scheme.

The accused Abduljabbar and Sad were previously arrested and remain in custody without bail. Defendant Krasilova remains at large.
