Former editor-in-chief of American Vogue Grace Mirabella has died at the age of 91. This was reported on the website of the journal.

The cause of death was not specified. It is noted that information on the date and place of the farewell ceremony will be published later.

“She was from a new generation of working women who put her career first. From an early age, her mother taught her that a woman should be financially independent – this belief influenced her work at Vogue, ”the magazine noted.

Mirabella joined Vogue as a marketing assistant in 1951. She joined the editorial board three years later. From 1971 to 1988, she served as the editor-in-chief of the magazine. During her tenure, Vogue's circulation increased to 1.2 million. In the 1990s, she founded her own magazine called Mirabella, which did not last long on the market.

In recent years, Mirabella has lectured, wrote a column for Quest magazine, and launched The Aesthete, an online magazine. In 1995, her autobiography, In and Out of Vogue, was published, in which she talked about 38 years in the fashion industry. In addition, in 1997, the journalist published a book about Tiffany & Co.
