The British Foreign Secretary said that Asma Assad is “not a welcome person in the United Kingdom.”
The British Foreign Office said that it will not allow Asma Assad to enter the country if she wants to start a new life after her divorce in London.
BILD writes about this.
The wife of former Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad, Asma, has two citizenships – Syrian and British, which theoretically gives her the opportunity to enter the UK without hindrance.
“In recent days, I have heard that Asma al-Assad may be a British citizen who may attempt to enter our country. I want to stress that she is under sanctions and is not a welcome person in the United Kingdom,” said British Foreign Secretary David Lammy after the final overthrow of the Assad regime in Syria and his flight to Russia.
At the same time, the publication notes that Asma al-Assad may be stripped of her British citizenship altogether. However, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has so far refrained from making any harsh statements.
“We are at too early a stage to make decisions,” Starmer stressed.
Recall that a number of Turkish and Arabic publications reported that Bashar al-Assad's wife no longer wants to live in Russia. As soon as the fugitive Syrian dictator and his wife asked Putin for political asylum, Asma al-Assad filed a divorce suit in a Russian court and demanded that she be allowed to leave the Russian Federation.
