Former Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz said he would work for billionaire Peter Thiel, one of the closest associates of former US President Donald Trump. This was reported by the OE24 TV channel.
Kurz will begin his new job at Thiel Capital next February as a “global strategist.” The head of the company, Peter Thiel, is a billionaire, Republican and longtime supporter of former US President Donald Trump. The ex-chancellor said that they met in 2017 at the Munich Security Conference.
Kurz's salary at the new job will be significantly higher than at the previous post – according to sources in the company, his future annual income may exceed 500 thousand euros, which is almost 200 thousand more than his salary as head of the Austrian government. Soon he is going to move with his family to the United States.
Kurz announced his resignation from the post of chancellor of Austria on October 9. His decision was reportedly linked to an investigation against him on suspicion of complicity in bribery and breach of trust. On November 18, the National Council of Austria stripped him of parliamentary immunity.
According to investigators, from 2016 to 2018, the Ministry of Finance of the country used funds from the budget “to finance exclusively party-politically motivated, sometimes manipulated polls conducted by a public opinion research company in the interests of a political party and its top official.” In addition, the survey data appeared in the Austrian daily and was not labeled as advertisements.
Kurz does not admit his guilt and claims that his innocence has already been proven by an independent legal expert.
