The detainees were allegedly part of a CIA conspiracy.

Three Americans, two Spaniards and a Czech citizen were detained in Colombia. They are suspected of conspiring to assassinate Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

This was reported by the AP.

Venezuela's Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello claims that the detainees were allegedly part of a CIA conspiracy. He also showed off rifles that he said were confiscated from some of the detainees.

Among those detained is U.S. Navy SEAL Wilbert Joseph Castañeda Gomez, whom Cabello described as a Navy SEAL who served in Afghanistan, Iraq and Colombia. The Spanish Embassy in Venezuela did not respond to inquiries about its citizens. The US State Department confirmed the detention of one US serviceman and expressed doubt about any US connection to this conspiracy, noting support for a democratic resolution to the crisis in Venezuela.

Recall that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro announced that Christmas in the country will begin on October 1 this year.
