Russia is not building any “spy base” at the embassy in Ireland, and plans to build a Russian diplomatic mission have long been discussed with local authorities. This is how the Russian Foreign Ministry spoke about publications in local media, RIA Novosti reports.

The department explained that the mansion in which the embassy is now located could no longer cope with the load. According to the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the diplomatic mission has been coordinating construction documentation with the local authorities for several years now, so the project was not a secret to anyone.

“Moreover, after the start of the work, representatives of the Irish Foreign Ministry leadership and local media had the opportunity to visit the facility and see everything with their own eyes,” the ministry said. The Foreign Ministry noted that this is far from the first time that the local media have published such “unfounded insinuations” against the Russian embassy.

Irish media reported last week that construction of a new Russian embassy building in Dublin was allegedly under threat. The notes state that local authorities fear that Russia may build a “secret spy base” on the territory of the diplomatic mission. The reason for suspicion was the premises and structures that can be used for military purposes – to transmit and receive signals and information.
