Maria Zakharova

The Russian Foreign Ministry commented on the blocking of Russian accounts on the social network Facebook. This was reported by TASS with reference to the official representative of the department, Maria Zakharova.

According to her, such a decision by the Facebook administration indicates an attempt to interfere in the internal affairs of Russia. Zakharova noted that the purpose of blocking Russian accounts is to model the information space.

The ministry spokeswoman also stressed that there are no national borders on the Internet, but Western countries are still trying to establish them. She added that blocking Russian information resources on the Internet can be called censorship.

It is noted that the administration of the social network has removed three groups of accounts that allegedly violated its policy on foreign interference. The company claims that these pages were managed from Russia.

Earlier, the State Duma reacted to the blocking of Russian Twitter accounts on suspicion of propaganda. Deputy Anton Gorelkin noted that by such actions the administration of the social network essentially blocks news about Russia. Gorelkin was also struck by the fact that Twitter could ban an account for criticizing blogger Alexei Navalny, and he wondered why they did not block pages on the Internet that criticize former Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev or State Duma deputy Vladimir Zhirinovsky.
