During the explosion near the Kabul airport, Russian citizens were not injured, said the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova in Telegram.
“At the time of the terrorist attack at the Kabul airport, there were no Russian citizens, according to the Russian embassy in Afghanistan,” Zakharova wrote.
The explosion at the Kabul airport occurred earlier on August 26. At least 50 people were injured, at least 13 were killed.
According to Politico, a suicide bomber of the Islamic State (IS, a terrorist organization banned in Russia) exploded near the airport. Earlier on August 26, the US Embassy in Kabul asked US citizens awaiting evacuation at the airport entrance to leave the area due to the threat of a terrorist attack. A spokesman for the US Department of Defense said that there is a risk of an attack by ISIS-K (“Vilayat Khorasan”) militants, an IS branch in Afghanistan.

In mid-August, the Taliban (a terrorist organization banned in Russia) announced the end of the confrontation with the official government of Afghanistan and the seizure of most of the country. Following this, thousands of people, both local residents and foreign citizens, wanted to leave the state, but the only place from where this could be done was the Kabul airport. Chaos erupted at the airport due to the cancellation of regular flights. The Taliban have warned that evacuation will be prohibited after August 31.
