Foreign fighters decided to drive out of Libya

by alex

The parties to the conflict in Libya agreed to drive foreign militants out of the country during the 5 + 5 peace talks held in Geneva. This was stated by the head of the UN mission to support Libya, Stephanie Williams, quoted by RIA Novosti.

“The parties decided that all military forces and armed groups that are on the front line will return to their camps. This should be done together with the liberation of all Libyan territories from foreign fighters, ”she explained. Williams added that the militants should be withdrawn from the conflict zone within three months.

In addition, from today, all training camps for the military will stop working – at least until a new government is formed. To monitor the observance of security, a joint police group will be created.

The UN representative stressed that the ceasefire does not apply to groups that the UN has recognized as terrorist. The ceasefire in Libya will enter into force immediately after the signing of the document.

In Libya, for a long time, there has been a confrontation between the government of national accord (PNC), which controls Tripoli, as well as territories in the west of the country and is supported by Turkey, and the Libyan National Army (LNA), which is supported by Egypt and Saudi Arabia. Its unofficial allies are France and the United Arab Emirates – the latter, according to some sources, supplied the army with equipment, including equipment purchased from Russia.
